Candie’s is the worst.

So, I was just reading People Magazine and I noticed this Candie’s ad with Vanessa Hudgens. Which, you know, is fine. She’s fine. The clothes were fine. The “Candie’s-isms” were fine: “Candie’s girls think every aisle is a runway,” featuring Vanessa in a glamorous drug store with pink cleaning products on the shelves. Cool. Fine.

Then, I noticed it.

One of the “Candie’s-isms” featured a glasses-clad Vanessa lying in a bed holding a book. The “Candie’s-ism” stated “Candie’s girls know smart is beautiful.” Awesome! Wait, what book is she reading? Pride and Prejudice. By Jane… Austin?

Jane Austin. Jane Austin. Jane. Austin.

I know. I KNOW. There are so many reasons to be upset about this. The main one being: how can you promote a “smart is beautiful” mentality when you can’t even take the time to double-check the spelling of a very famous author’s name? This shouldn’t have gotten past anyone, much less the amount of people who must’ve overlooked it for this to get printed in a major print publication.

Fact-checking is beautiful. Knowledge is beautiful. Careless mistakes? Not beautiful.
